Comic Adds

Adds have turned up to be in just about everything we've seen in modern media, so much so that it is the most annoying thing in our culture. It is just surprising where companies manage to advertise themselves to ensure everyone is aware of their product. My first time reading a physical comic I was kind of surprised by the actual method of placing the adds among the pages. Every few pages in the middle of a forward-moving story, things just stop like on a basic cable channel. Instead of reading on, you have to flip the wasted page just to get back to the actual story. It is not that much of a hindrance, but you find yourself asking why. The best thing to do from here is to show you exactly what I am talking about, in a comic book that should not have any adds to slow down the story.

Last year DC comics announced the premiere of the "Black Label" line of comics which would feature several works by Frank Miller. The well known artist and writer will be  working on at least two new titles, "Superman: Year One" and an untitled Carey Kelly series . This was announced last year on March 2018 by DC and several media outlets. There were, of course, fans of the publisher that did not look forward to or pay attention to the new line of comics until the release of "Batman: Damned" in September 2018. The premiere title of Black Label  drew in publicity  after readers witnessed the provocative imagery of a nude Batman. Prices on the comic increased dramatically and became erratic for a period of time. Such a situation was enough for readers to start looking at the new line of comics with the expectation of being impressed by the promise of a new more "no holds barred" style of writing. Comics sales relative to Movies

When a major motion picture gains critical acclaim from both most merchandise related to it gets bought pretty easily. This can definitely be asserted and asserted when talking about nerd subculture media. When a new Star Wars movie rolls around, both before and after, toys and cheap costumes fly off the shelves . With that as an example of what the masses expect after a successful movie release, most comic fans presume this would increase comic sales and concurrent readers. This however, is not the case as sales do not grow considerably or consistently regarding comics after major film releases. When a new major superhero film is released, publishers are not expecting current runs of comics with characters featured from the Marvel Cinamatic Universe to go flying off the shelves. Venom Prints Money

Based on the title most people would naturally assume that I am referring to the recently released major motion picture, Venom, but I am actually just talking about the character. For his thirty year existence in comics, the large toothed snarling monster has been beloved by both large and small groups of fans. Both as a primary villain and as an anti-hero, the Venom has been able to pull in both old and new readers, and sometimes viewers. Some could argue that Venom has never really had very much depth as far as characterization, but that has never stopped people from enjoying reading about him. So much so that the publisher that owns him, Marvel, have seen it fit on several occasions to give him major stories to appear in when they feel like making money Venom was fist introduced into comics in the early 80's on the pages of "The Amazing Spider-Man," not as a villain, but as a suit.
