Cover Art Effectiveness

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, with a book that is made up of mainly pictures you have to make the first one the most expressive it can possibly be. The cover art of any comic is meant to not only draw in anyone who see it and drawn in to reading it, it is also meant to captivate the potential reader. It may not even be a commonly known fact that the cover is done by a seperate artist who must take his time to complete the crucial illustration. Yes, the cover may at most times be the deciding factor for whether or not a reader will pick up the comic, based on whether the comic will contain what they feel like reading about. However, the artist and even the publishers will not always use it for just drawing in a reader, it is also a perfectly good opportunity to create a perfectly good works of art. Part of the charm of comic book covers is that over time they have become not as direct as they used to be. Earlier on they would have the characters speak on the cover , a

Playing a few Games

Image
Whenever I head to my local comic shop to pick-up my pull list and I should be so lucky to meet a few friends, we will play a board game. We may decide to pick from the few that are set aside for the customers, all very fun games. But we may also see another game, that is not on the shelf, that is worth the new purchase to play. Certain games that are either board games or table-top will have very impressive looking rule books. Some are tailored to the game, others are tailored to a style. From there we find a table to sit down and set-up the game to play. Usually we play out in front where more people will see us in case they want to join in for a game. Other times, when we want to have a more private game, we will sit away from everyone else. We do so in a glass boxed off area where people can still see us. Sometimes if the game we might want to play is being used we will usually just play a video game. Thankfully there are always some made for groups. Putt

Thoughts on Batman

The World's Greatest Detective is truly a character who needs no introduction as his image has been forever carved into the heart of American culture and history. Most people who have ever seen or heard any form of media have acknowledged something that references the character and his stories. His symbol has been on animated TV shows, live action TV shows, movies of both categories, clothes, games, and anything else you can think of. Yet, you can say all the same things about Superman, if not add on even more in his favor. Batman has been glorified and placed on such a high pedestal that many comic readers can not help but see him in nothing more than a satirical manner. His popularity is well earned because of how the character works and how he must be written to match the standard that had been set for the character. Batman, alter-ego Bruce Wayne , is just a human being, a lot of people can only see him as only being at a disadvantage in stories involving characters with power

Power Scaling

If you do not know what this is based on the title, part of me does not want you to know because of how a annoying of a subject it can be. Power scaling, on a topic of any form of fictional media, is when people compare characters based on their powers and skills. This is mostly done with superheros, it can be a fun little way to pass the time with a statistical comparison. Like saying who is the strongest, The Hulk or The Thing, based on their various feats in their respective stories. Of course people recognize this as something that kids do to say their favorite hero is better. Yet, as you get older, you may find yourself in the company of people who take this test of knowledge too far in conversation. Ultimately this is just a test of  knowledge between fans to show how much they have read over the years. Still, there are people who take it too far and completely disregard others opinions and likes to make some form of point about who is better. There are people who will bring up

Frank Miller: An Aggressive Tale

Frank Miller is a widely known comic book writer who's work has managed to touch the lives of so many people who may not even realize it. He has written works that have both provoked thought and created emotional roller coasters to stir the mind. His works are known for their gritty and Noir like content, his most common form of writing style that are in his main works. However, many of his closely following fans have noticed the parts of his works that may seem somewhat unconventional. The readers of his works expect the content to be rather explicit, but there are things he writes where some people will question his sanity. He was born in 1957, in Maryland, as one of seven children, he is currently 61 years old. Based on his age it could be assume that he has an older and very different set of values based on this information, and those who would assume would be right. He has stated publicly that he was raised Irish Catholic, along with a few other things that gave some impress
