Love for the Fans

Comic book companies are always trying to be in a state where they will constantly be attracting more and more readers to whatever titles they feel will draw them in. This need to draw in people has led to the creation of many new characters that have entranced their readers. In some cases, those readers have stayed with the characters and their stories for long periods of time, depending on the character and series of comics. Other than just creating new series all together and taking a gamble on how it will turn out, there will sometimes be promotional events throughout the year. These events are both ways for comic book companies to show their appreciation towards fans as well as gather new readers.
When someone wants to get into comics, the best thing for them  to do is start off with a the first issue of a series. It is easy for them to get into the story and it just makes sense to start at the beginning. Companies share this belief and have events during the year where they sent the first issue of certain comics to comic book sellers to give out for free. They do this for a fact around Halloween and on Free Comic Book Day, two times of the year that comic fans adore. These number one issue comics are typically either a new series all together or the first issue of a long running or old series. Old series are included because they may be currently being rebooted or the original story is now being continued. The point being, this is a nice and friendly way for companies to do things for fans and gain more.
As far as public relations go, these acts have had a great deal of effects for comics on many levels. Both major and small publishers use the tactics of free comics at events to entice more readers. Promotional events are the best way to gain a real connection with people who want to improve or gain a bond with a product and the producer.
