Comic New Comers

To my knowledge there is no simple and quick way to introduce someone to comics. This mainly applies to mainstream comic publishers like Marvel and DC as they have stories and characters that have existed for years. It is difficult for someone new to get into a story a has been going on for 40 years and has had 10 major plot changes in that span of time.

Normally when someone finds their way into the comics such as these, they have seen an interesting cover or hero and picked up a single issue to read. They then proceed to learn of poplar stories that relate to their original find until they have expanded their knowledge of the work. Individuals new to comics also get a decent amount of reading material from suggestions from more experienced readers.

New readers are also encouraged to read certain comics from movies, tv series, and toys. These instances have encouraged a rise in new readers within the last two decades.

When met with someone who wants to get into comics and graphic novels, I have found it best to see what resonates with them the most with mainstream comics and also suggest linear graphic novels. The more simple the better, complex details and a grand amount of scattered history is off putting to most people.

Finally, if people getting into comics don't feel like knowing as much as someone more experienced or simply find it is not for them, then there is no need to press a hobby to someone not interested. Comics can be difficult to get into and even harder to stick with, but in the end they can be worth it as well.
