Frank Miller: An Aggressive Tale

Frank Miller is a widely known comic book writer who's work has managed to touch the lives of so many people who may not even realize it. He has written works that have both provoked thought and created emotional roller coasters to stir the mind. His works are known for their gritty and Noir like content, his most common form of writing style that are in his main works. However, many of his closely following fans have noticed the parts of his works that may seem somewhat unconventional. The readers of his works expect the content to be rather explicit, but there are things he writes where some people will question his sanity.

He was born in 1957, in Maryland, as one of seven children, he is currently 61 years old. Based on his age it could be assume that he has an older and very different set of values based on this information, and those who would assume would be right. He has stated publicly that he was raised Irish Catholic, along with a few other things that gave some impressions of his character. What I am circling around is the fact that Miller is very vocal conservative who had a few choice points to make after 9/11. He had certain opinions, which he is allowed to have, about the terrorism situation and the religion of Islam. Moving past this, prior to writing about subjects through which he could insert his view points, he has some masterfully written works that I would like to recommend. These works so famously known that some of them have either been made into made into movies or been incorporated into them:

  • The Dark Knight Returns
  • The Dark Knight III: Master Race
  • Batman: Year One
  • Daredevil: Born Again
  • Daredevil: The Man Without Fear
  • Sin City
  • 300
These are all great reads, and for some people great watches, that deserve to be given a chance. There are many more things that could be recommended from him, but there are also a few that are not worth readings outside of irony. The man does good work, good work that he can sometimes get carried away with. He has his quirks, but do not let that stop you from enjoying what he does.
